Screening time and screen information
Nov 5th 10:00〜 Theater3Ai Can
Ai Can is a documentary portrait of a man who suffers from mental illness, but never stopped making his art during years of retirement. During a conversation with a friend, she showed me photos of her grandfather, Zhou Ai Can's unusual collection of toys and installations he made. I became interested and interviewed his family. Ai Can's wife and daughter talked about their opinions on his works. Suffering from the result of Ai Can's hoarding behavior, his family decided to clean up all the ""trash"". Before they refurnish the house entirely, I stepped in and took footage of the remaining objects. Because of his mental state, I've never met Ai Can in person during the whole making process of this film. With the interview recordings and my own interpretation, I made video collages and animation representing physical and emotion landscape Ai Can once lived upon. All visual elements are made with his collection and found footage.

Currents
“Currents” is a digital animation, shifting through the uncontrollable time scales along with the locations and eras. The main character gets lost in places, lost in times, and lost in realities. He sinks into the water as descending into the uncontrollable realities, an unstable state of perception in which one seems to be more than oneself, and more than one place at the same time. The sense of instability becomes increasingly visible because of the quickly changing world. We identify multiple realities, such as an individual and his/her avatar on the internet, physical existence and legal existence, objects and its numbers in a bank. The sense of separation between one and oneself is enlarging. For better or worse, the process of constant relocating ourselves produces both anxiety and ecstasy.

Protestant
The understanding of Luther, and the spirit he represents, has global significance for this new generation, especially under this complex political and religious climate. Martin Luther is not only a significant symbol for the Protestants, but also for the general public. His spirituality can productively illuminate how one can make connections with the world, that surpasses ethnicity, politics and even religion! This painting was completed at the 500th Anniversary of religious reform, from the perspective of a Chinese artist.
